UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT TORRINGTON CAMPUS The University of Connecticut at Torrington offers
a high quality and affordable academic experience to people in Litchfield
County and the Farmington Valley. The 100 acre campus is located in a quiet rural setting on the western outskirts of the city of Torrington and consists of a large classroom building and ample parking. Well equipped science laboratories, an art studio, computer rooms, a UConn Co-op bookstore, a 250 seat auditorium, a student lounge, and a cafeteria are all part of the facility. An 18,000 volume library subscribes to more than 100 journals, periodicals, and newspapers, and provides access to all other UConn libraries, as well as to public libraries and the libraries of other schools. The student population is approximately 400, and the student to faculty ratio is 10 to 1. Accessibility of faculty and quality of instruction are the cornerstones of the Torrington Campus's academic excellence. The University of Connecticut offers more than ninety Majors and Academic Programs within its eleven undergraduate schools and colleges. At the Torrington Campus, students may begin any of these majors with the exception of Music. Most students relocate ("branchfer") to the Storrs Campus after two years at Torrington; in some programs, they branchfer earlier to accommodate specialized curricular needs. Additionally, many junior and senior level courses are offered, primarily for those students in the Bachelor of General Studies program, who can complete requirements for a UConn degree at the Torrington Campus. Non-degree study is also available. This program enables qualified individuals to register for regular credit courses for academic credit without being formally admitted to an undergraduate degree program.
Financial aid, packaged through the Financial Aid Office at the Storrs Campus, is available and requires the submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Financial aid questions can be directed to Registrar/Bursar David Horvath at the Torrington Campus. Scholarships are also offered through the generosity of the local community. Student activities at the campus are sponsored by
the Associated Student Government, and have included such events as pizza
parties, scavenger hunts, concerts, bus trips, and the annual Spring Fling
to celebrate the end of the school year. The Torrington Campus is actively involved in many aspects of the local community, including economic development and the arts. The campus is the home of public service radio station WAPJ 89.9FM, which provides students with the opportunity to participate in live radio programming. The Torrington Campus is also the home of the Litchfield County Writers Project which, in addition to housing a collection of the published works of Litchfield County authors, includes programs and seminars by and about those authors. costs | financial aid | library | non-degree studies scholarships and awards | course schedule | student affairs | students with disabilities |
